Bathurst is a city of approximately 40,000 people. The Oxford Hotel was established in the mid 1800s and is a venue which is prominent and well-known within the city of Bathurst and surrounding areas.

In early 2002, the Oxford management realised there was a gap in the Central West marketplace for a marquee venue where all needs could be met.

Recognising this opening, management began a pursuit to create the ultimate Hotel venue for the Central West community. From this, Bistro Piper, Club Medusa, Cobb & Co Cellars, Garden Grill and ‘The Oxford Public Bar' were formed.

Ashwin Lyons, The Oxford's owner and licensee says, "The Oxford was created to cater for a larger market- taking into account the surrounding areas of Bathurst, we have the potential to reach an audience of 200,000+"

The Oxford Complex began its planning in 2002 with construction of the new site beginning with Cobb & Co Cellars (Phase 1) which was completed in July 2005.

Phase 2, ‘Club Medusa' was opened in April 2006.

Following on, phase 3 ‘Bistro Piper' was opened in July 2006 and the final phase, being ‘The Oxford Public Bar' was opened in September 2006.
